Assegun Territory: North shore
of the Straits of Mackinac which go from Lake Michigan to Lake
Huron.
The
Assegun were driven from their homeland by the Odawa to Mascouten
Territory in southwest Michigan in 1649. Subsequently, as part
of a Confederation with the Mascouten, they suffered severely
from an attack by the French and Potwatomi in 1712. Refugees
went to live amongst the Kickapoo.
