Athapuscow Cree Territory:
Northeast Alberta.
The Athapuscow Cree
were severely decimated by the smallpox epidemic of 1781. Nevertheless,
they survived. In the years that followed, Cree flooded in from
the east and merged with the survivors. So great were the numbers
of these newcomers that a new identity was formed, "Bush
Cree".
