COMMENT
Based on the map evidence
above, it would appear that the Wood Stoney migrated from Manitoba
to Alberta between 1772 and 1785. This may have occurred due
to the 1781 smallpox epidemic which hit the praire tribes hard.
Previous to this,
the maps also reveal that the Wood Stoney were north of Lake
Winnipeg between 1702 and 1772.
Prior to that, they
were located north of Lake Superior and known as "Assiniboine". |
